Premium surfaces need premium care. The wrong cleaning product on marble, granite or hardwood can cause permanent damage — etching, dulling, or stripping the finish. Here's what you should (and shouldn't) use on the most common delicate surfaces.
These are acid-sensitive surfaces. Avoid: acidic products including vinegar, lemon juice, and most bathroom cleaners. Use: pH-neutral surface cleaner diluted in warm water. For marks, a specialist stone cleaner (HG Stone Cleaner is widely available). Dry immediately to prevent water marks.
Granite is more acid-resistant than marble but still benefits from gentle care. Quartz handles everyday cleaners well but can be dulled by abrasive products or excessive heat. Use: diluted washing-up liquid or specialist quartz cleaner. Avoid: bleach on coloured quartz and abrasive pads.
Water is the enemy. Never wet-mop hardwood floors. Use a barely-damp mop with a dedicated hardwood floor cleaner. Products like Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner are specifically formulated not to strip the finish.
Always wipe with the grain of the steel to avoid scratching. Baby oil on a cloth, applied after cleaning, creates a streak-free shine and resists fingerprints.
Check the manufacturer's label: W = water-based cleaners, S = solvent only, WS = both, X = professional cleaning only. Never over-wet fabric upholstery — it can cause shrinkage and water staining.
they'll adapt accordingly.
