Cleaning everything all the time is neither realistic nor necessary. The trick is knowing which areas need regular attention and which can wait — without letting things get out of hand.
The kitchen sees daily use and food residue, so it needs the most frequent attention. Wipe surfaces and the hob after every use. Clean the sink weekly. Inside the fridge and microwave: monthly. Inside the oven: every 3 months.
Toilet, sink and shower/bath surfaces should be cleaned weekly. Tiles and grout: monthly. A quick daily wipe of the basin after brushing teeth prevents limescale build-up.
Vacuum weekly, dust surfaces, and wipe down remote controls and light switches (often overlooked germ hotspots). Deep clean soft furnishings seasonally.
Change bedding weekly. Vacuum and dust fortnightly. Under-bed areas and inside wardrobes: seasonally.
High-traffic areas accumulate dirt quickly. Vacuum stairs weekly and wipe skirting boards monthly.
Once a year (or more often for busy households), a full deep clean covers everything regular cleaning misses — inside appliances, behind furniture, curtains, and all those corners you genuinely forget about.
